A new RUSLET ropeway was launched on the southern slope of Big Wood Ski Resort

With the development of ski resorts in Russia, more and more tourists go for skiing or snowboarding as a winter recreation. Ski resorts are so diverse a traveler can choose the most comfortable leisure activity for himself.

The main advantage of the unique Big Wood ski resort is the opportunity to extend the skiing season as much as possible and to see one of the most beautiful wonders of nature – the northern lights.

Annually, a vast number of tourists visit the hospitable corner of winter skiing lovers located above the Arctic Circle. And, the more tourists arrive to the Khibiny Mountains, the more acute is the issue of comfortable transportation of the guests to the peaks of the ski slopes. The only means of transportation for athletes and vacationers along the ski slopes is a ropeway.

SNOWPROM Group was assigned to develop design documentation and perform the full range of construction and installation works.

Additional challenges our specialists faced were climatic and geological conditions. We had to take into account significant wind loads, heterogeneous soil, high groundwater, and the unique composition of snow that intricately envelops all buildings and structures. Although such a natural phenomenon – the combination of wind and wet snow – makes the landscape look absolutely fantastic, from a technical point of view it was necessary to provide additional safety measures.

Design and construction of a ropeway is a rather complex process, and our highly qualified engineers and builders successfully handled all the tasks and issues that were set by the customer and nature! And in May 2024 a RUSLET ropeway was launched. The first gondolas took passengers on board and started their way up the southern slope of the picturesque Aikuavenchorr mountain.

The new modern ropeway is equipped with 34 comfortable fully covered gondolas of the Porsche design. Two rows of solid seats, each for 4 passengers, allow for comfortable seating, and additional devices allow skis and snowboards to be placed outside whilst not interfering with the beautiful views that tourists and athletes can enjoy during the ride.

The ropeway is designed not only for winter operation. The company’s specialists have implemented the possibility to arrive in summer and walk the mountain trails, feeling the breath of the wind freely roaming around the picturesque area.

One of the important technical parameters of this ropeway is its capacity. Thirty-four 8-seat cabins at a speed of 6 m/s can carry up to 1,200-pph uphill, which prevents queues in the boarding area and improves the capacity of the entire resort.

Our specialists paid special attention to ensuring safe operation of the ropeway. All materials and equipment meet the requirements of federal codes and regulations for industrial safety, and the technical solutions adopted ensure that carriers with passengers on the line can return to any of the stations even in the event of a power outage.

In addition, SNOWPROM Group ensures safe operation throughout the long season not only due to high-quality design and construction, but also by providing prompt and high-quality warranty and post-warranty service.

The fusion of experience and close cooperation of our design team and construction workers allows us to solve the most unconventional tasks. One of the proofs of this statement is the new ropeway implemented under the development program of the Big Wood ski resort.
